On Choosing the Right Platforms

The average social media user logs on to seven platforms each month.

Maintaining a presence for your organization on any given social platform is time consuming. With people logging in to several platforms, it’s more important than ever to choose the ones where you will have the greatest return on investment.

There are several things to consider before jumping on to a platform. First and foremost is your audience. How old are they? What are their interests? Why are they engaged on this particular platform? Consider who your audience is and where they are most likely to be online.

Each platform has different rules too. How many characters are allowed in a post? How important are hashtags? What are the recommended graphics sizes for visual posts? These aspects of platforms are always changing.

Bottom line: don’t try to maintain a presence on every social platform. Instead, focus on doing a few platforms well so you can really build a connection with your audience.
