Why do people log on to social media? Is it to message their friends? To get inspiration for tomorrow’s outfit? Or maybe it’s to see pictures from Taylor Swift’s most recent tour.
Pay attention and you’ll notice all of these have a common theme: people log on to social media to be entertained.
Why then do so many organizations insist on posting self-promotional content that has no entertainment value to their target market?
According to the Hootsuite Social Media Trends 2024 Report, “nonprofits that publish entertaining content on social will succeed in winning engagement and (eventually) support away from organizations that keep on publishing the same old stuff.”
So, you need to post more entertaining content, easier said than done. How can you make enjoyable content when your mission isn’t flashy?
It’s time to get creative! Entertainment doesn’t just mean lighthearted. People log on to social media to get inspiration, learn something new and connect with communities too.
Deciding the best way to give your audience what they want gives you the opportunity to learn more about them, foster community and ultimately gain their support for your cause.
